“Flinty, mineral Chablis-style”
de la terre Chardonnay 2015 NZ
Region: Hawke's Bay
Sub-region: Te Mata Special Character Zone, Havelock North
- This is essentially a “naked” Chardonnay – it has never been in contact with any type of oak, nor has it undergone any malo-lactic fermentation.
- Fresh and vibrant fruit-driven style, with the emphasis on stone fruit and tropical fruit elements.
- Hand-picked grapes.
- Estate bottled and hand-labelled.
Intense tropical fruit spectrum dominates the aroma profile – notes of ripe nectarine and peach with hints of pineapple and banana. Ripe Chardonnay fruit with lingering fruit sweetness and a creamy texture. Concentrated palate with clean, fresh stone fruit flavours, lively, balanced and elegant.
Secret Sommelier’s Comments
An unoaked Chardonnay that is aromatic which ticks all the boxes for those who are not great lovers of the toasty oak flavours. Fruit driven in the most pleasant manor. The wine initially comes across boasting pronounced tropical fruit flavours that mellow towards cantaloupe and ripe stone fruit. It is a lively wine with great balance and perfectly textured creamy mouthfeel.
