“Stone-fruit, toasty oak, yeast”
de la terre Chardonnay Barrique Ferment 2016 NZ
£24.00
In stock
Style Notes & Key Points
- A bright and vibrant barrel-fermented Chardonnay โ essentially fruit-driven with restrained use of oak, malo and yeast influences.
- Grapes were handpicked and gently pressed as small batches prior to fermentation in (mainly) French barriques.
- Estate bottled and hand-labelled, individually numbered, 2615 bottles produced.
Tasting Notes
Definitive stone fruit Chardonnay varietal character with a touch of citrus alongside a lovely seam of lightly toasted French oak, yeasty notes and limestone minerality.
A clean/fresh ‘attack’ leading to a tight and linear mid-palate. Refreshing and lively fruit flavours with obvious French oak and yeast influence. A long finish with citrus flavours kicking in at the end.
Secret Sommelier’s Comments
Tony Prichard certainly knows how to handle Chardonnay. Love the level of oak here. Itโs more noticeable than the Reserve, but the texture and flavour intensity carry it so well. Ripe fleshy stone fruit is balanced by zesty citrus and the โleesyโ texture from occasional stirring. The limestone minerality comes through on the finish which is long lasting.
